The Great Book of Nature - THE CHICKEN
Episode Summary:
In the first part of the episode, one of a hen’s chicks is so lazy that
it insists on riding on its mother’s back instead of walking with its
brothers and sisters. The chick doesn’t understand how important it is
to learn how to jump and to do all the exercises necessary to strengthen
its leg muscles. When the other chicks come to the edge of a deep ditch
and jump across, our lazy chick is consequently afraid to follow them.
When its brothers and sisters urge it to try and make the leap, the
chick falls into the ditch. All the others join forces to rescue the
hapless chick, who in return, promises never to be lazy again. In the
second part, a pig and a bear agree to meet and collect wild fruit
together, but the pig is lazy and falls asleep instead of showing up at
the meeting place. The bear then finds the pig snoring at the foot of a
tree, and persuades it to get up. But the pig likes taking things easy,
and much prefers to steal a few cucumbers from the rabbit’s field, and
some pears from the deer’s tree, rather than going to the trouble to
collect its own wild fruit. Finally, the pig’s laziness allows it to be
trapped by a wolf; luckily for the pig, its friend the bear comes to the
rescue, and saves the day.
